A lenient Confederation of Africa Volleyball Federation (CAVB) allowed Kenya Prisons a chance into the 2019 Africa Women’s Club Champions despite the Wardress missing the mandatory Technical Meeting held on Friday.

The annual championship, the biggest club competition in Africa is set to serve off on Saturday in Cairo, Egypt.

Prisons, the reigning Kenyan championship were still holed up in Nairobi by the time the draw was conducted.

Their departure to Egypt was delayed by at least two days with the Ministry of Interior dragging their feet on releasing Sh5 million meant for the team’s budget to for the event.

Josp Baraza told SPORTSNEWS AFRICA that they were still in Nairobi by the time the draw was conducted, but said they were handed a lifeline after they landed in Group D, meaning they can still afford to leave the country on Saturday and make it to Cairo in time before Monday when they serve off their matches.

“We are ready. We are just waiting for clearance and if everything goes as planned then we might leave by 7pm,” Baraza told SPORTSNEWS AFRICA on phone, adding that they sent a request to CAVB to be exempted from the mandatory Technical Meeting.

Prisons landed Asec of Ivory Coast, Ugandan’s Nkumba and Shams of Egypt in a relatively easy pool D.

The other Kenyan representatives, Kenya Pipeline paired FAP of Cameroon, Rwanda Revenue Authority and Shootings of Egypt in Group C.

KCB meanwhile landed in Group B alongside Carthage of Tunisia, DGSP of Congo.
