Chelsea are considering Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo or ex-favourite Frank Lampard to replace Maurizio Sarri.

Owner Roman Abramovich has no desire to sack Sarri before the end of the season, but there is a growing feeling the Italian is not a natural fit for the club.

Fans revolted against Sarri during last month’s FA Cup defeat by Manchester United and are now prepared to boycott home games.

Sarri has failed to build a connection with the fans inside and out of Stamford Bridge. It could prove to be his undoing.

Stamford Bridge has become a library as of late. Not because the fans do not want the team to win but because they see so little on the field to get excited about whether they cheer or not.

This has turned into a “fan protest” as season ticket holders begin to sell off their seats.

Sarri will only go before the end of the season if Chelsea crash out of the Europa League and suffer a collapse in their battle for a top-four place.

But Zidane’s shock return to Real Madrid, plus Juventus coach Max Allegri’s snub, has left them seeking an alternative.

Santo, 45, has been gaining growing support within the Blues board after leading Wolves up to seventh place in their first season back in the top flight and sealing an FA Cup semi-final spot.

But Lamps, 40, would be the fans’ choice, especially if he came with another ex-Bridge star Jody Morris.
