Real Madrid crashed out of Champions League with a humiliating 4-1 defeat by Ajax in the Champions League round of 16 at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Real Madrid conceded two goals inside the opening 20 minutes from Hakim Ziyech and David Neres as pressure mounted on the home team.

Real Madrid looked disorganised in the opening stages of the game as the host looked far from their best once again in the Champions League.

Ajax player Noussair Mazraoui was booked for a foul in the 26th minute, Real Madrid was forced into an early substitute in the 29th minute as Lucas Vazquez was changed for Gareth Bale.

Los Blanco’s woes multiplied as Dani Carvajal was booked after half an hour for a foul before Asensio was brought in for Vinicius in the 35th minute.

Bale’s effort was denied by the woodwork in the 42nd minute and Matthijs de Ligt handed the ball in the area but the referee was not interested as no penalty was given.

The first 45 minutes ended in favour of the visitors with a 2-0 lead at the Santiago Bernabeu.

The second half started with Real Madrid pushing for their opening goal with efforts from Asensio, Luka Modric and Karim Benzema in vain.

Real Madrid struggled to penetrate the visitor’s defence as Benzema struggled to get the past the Ajax defenders.

Ajax scored the third goal in the 63rd minute as Duscan Tadic fired an unstoppable shot into the top left corner of the post.

Asensio pulled one back for Real Madrid to make it 1-3 in the 70th minute after a good pass from Sergio Reguilion, but Ajax responded immediately after Lasse Schone found the back of the net in the 72nd minute to make it 1-4.

Nacho was sent off after a second bookable offence as Real Madrid endured a torrid night against the Dutch team at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Ajax advanced to the quarterfinals on 5-3 aggregate.
