Kenyan international Jesse Were has been linked with a move to the South Africa League.

Were, who is currently attached to Zambian champions Zesco United, is said to be on the radar of Kaizer Chiefs.

Chiefs who parted ways with former Gor Mahia defender Godfrey Walusimbi in January is reportedly willing to splash Sh20 million for the services of the Harambee Stars striker and Zesco’s all-time record scorer.

Chiefs are said to be monitoring the Kenyan goal poacher who is currently in Sudan with Zesco and according to Soccer Laduma,  the Kenyan international is a top priority for the club ahead of the June transfer window.

“Kaizer Chiefs are believed to be unhappy with the contribution from their (current) strikers this season and could now turn their attention to a striker that was previously linked with a move to Mamelodi Sundowns,” a source was quoted by the website.

Were attracted the attention of the Johannesburg side with a superb performance for Zesco when the two sides met recently in the Caf Confederation Cup group stages play-off.

Were, 28, who has won three Zambian Premier League titles joined Zesco United in 2016 from Tusker.

The former Mathare United striker is set to run out of contract with Zesco at the end of the season.
