Kenya climbed one place up in the HSBC World Sevens Series log after picking seven points from the Hamilton 7s leg.

Shujaa now stands at position 13 with 11 points, 46 behind series leaders, Fiji and the United States who are both tied at the top with 57. New Zealand is third, followed by South Africa on 54 and 44 points respectively.

Paul Murunga men went down 36-7 to England in the Challenge Trophy final in New Zealand, but it was a relatively improved performance from the youthful side, who had picked only four points from the opening two legs in Dubai and South Africa.

Shujaa reached the finals with a 24-7 victory over Argentina 24-7 in the Challenge Trophy semis while England took out Spain 38-7.

They had beaten France in their final pool C game and then knocked down Tonga in the quarters of the Challenge Trophy.

With seven rounds still left, Kenya must now strive to break into top four who are assured of automatic qualification to the next Summer Olympics in Tokyo 2020.

Meanwhile, Kenya landed in a relatively easy pool B as they head to Sidney, Australia for the fourth leg set for February 2.

The pool consists of the USA who took Silver in Hamilton, France, whom they beat in Hamilton and Canada, sitting just two places above them in the standings.

Sydney 7s pools:
Pool A: Fiji, Samoa, England, Japan
Pool B: USA, Canada, Kenya, France
