The Ministry of Interior is on the spot with reports coming from Egypt indicating that Kenya Prisons volleyball team has been taken ‘hostage’ in Cairo.

The reigning Kenyan Volleyball Federation defending champions suffered a double tragedy after they were knocked out of the ongoing Africa Women’s Club Champions.

Prisons journey to Cairo has not been a walk in the park; first, they arrived in the Egyptian capital just hours before the annual championship served off last Saturday after the parent Ministry delayed the release of funds to facilitate their travel.

And on Wednesday, the Kenyan officers were holed up at the Al-Albilla Hotel over nonpayment of hotel bills with the hotel management opting to confiscate their passports as a precautionary measures move that threw the entire country into ridicule.

“Our passports have been taken by the hotel management. We can’t move. Even getting food is a problem,” a member of Prisons delegation told SPORTSNEWS AFRICA.

Prisons are also facing a possibility of being slapped with a hefty fine by the Confederation of Africa Volleyball CAVB-for late payment of the mandatory participation fee.

Prisons, alongside another Kenyan representative, KCB were knocked out of the competition. The five-time African champions succumbed to hosts El Shams 3-1 (25-18, 25-20,22-25,25-21) in the final group match on Thursday.
