Kenya has landed fellow East African Tanzania in a tricky draw of the Africa Cup of Nations conducted on Friday night in Cairo, Egypt.

The two East African sides who are returning to the continental stage with a cumulative 44 years absence have landed in Group C that also has Algeria and former champions Senegal. Tanzania last played at the games 29 years ago while Kenya missed the last 15 years.

Another East African side, Ugandan was paired with the host Egypt, who will open the tournament with a match against Zimababwe. Democratic Republic of Congo completed the group.

Nigeria, who are returning to the continental stage for the first time after missing the last two editions has Burundi, Madagascar and Guinea in Group B while South Africa has Ivory Coast, Morocco and Namibia in group D.

Ghana, Kenya’s opponents in the qualifier landed in the group of death that also has fellow West Africa side Cameroon, Benin and Guinea Bissau in Group F. Group E has Tunisia, Mali, Mauritania and Angola.
