Harambee Stars Captain Victor Wanyama was among the few  Premier League players who took part in the campaign against racism on Friday.

The Tottenham Hotspur midfielder, who made history on Wednesday when he steered Spurs to the UEFA Champions League semi-final, joined the likes of Yaya Toure and Manchester City’s Leroy Sane in standing up against discrimination, based on the skin pigmentation, as a section of black players took a setting stand against racial abuse.

Should Wanyama get a slot in Mauricio Pochettino’s squad to face Ajax on April 30, he will become the second Kenyan, after his elder brother McDonald Mariga, to have played in the semi-final of the Uefa champions League. Mariga achieved the feat with Inter Milan in 2010.

The Kenys skipper who is expected to guide Stars to the African Cup of Nation in June in Egypt, Twitted a hashtag “ENOUGH” as he joined in the 24-hour social media ‘blackout’ campaign aimed at creating awareness against racial abuse online.

The campaign that is coordinated by the Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA) had urged players to stay away from social media from 8am after posting the hashtag #Enough.

This was in solidarity with the black England players, who were subjected to racist chants in the 2020 Euro Qualifier against Montenegro in March.

The campaign, however, was boycotted by other big stars such as Mohammed Salah (Liverpool) Eden Hazard (Chelsea’a) and Arsenal’s Mesut Ozil who didn’t post the hashtag on their Twitted pages.
