Sony Sugar FC custodian John Waw has revealed how selfless neighbours and doctors at Mama Lucy Hospital in Nairobi saved his life as they pumped out over 400 tablets from his system.

Waw, who is recovering from a knee surgery, was battling depression.

“The day I decided to die was an ordinary day. People were going about their businesses as usual. No one knew the agony I was in or how I felt that life no longer made sense and how badly I was struggling to get by. My whole world had caved in and I felt I couldn’t breathe. So I made up my mind to end my life,” Waw said in a post online.

Before he decided to commit suicide, Waw walked to his favourite joint, ordered a kilo of nyama choma and a bottle of beer. After the meal he boarded a bus to the CBD to purchase the drugs.

“I smiled at the lady. I made her feel like the medicine she was selling me was for a work project. There were 400 tablets and I would take one after another while still in the matatu but nothing happened. No thunder or lightning, or anything.

“By the time I got home, maybe 100 tablets were left and I hastily swallowed them. Then I made sure I didn’t lock the door. I didn’t want to inconvenience whoever found my body – even in death, I still wanted to be nice. I then lay on the bed waiting for death to claim me.

“When they found me two hours later I was drifting in and out of consciousness. They pumped the drugs out of my system. They put a pipe down my nose to the stomach then they ran the machine. It was painful. I actually felt each tablet coming up through my nose,” he revealed.

Waw has since resumed training and he might make a full return to action in the match against Gor Mahia.
