Harambee Stars qualification to the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations finals is as a result of the foundation laid down by former Football Kenya Federation (FKF) administration, former chairman Sam Nyamweya has said.

Nyamweya has been out of football administration for the past three years after he was toppled by Nick Mwendwa in 2016.

But the former administrator now claims that the recent success the team is currently enjoying is as a result of the ‘foundations’ his administration put in place as he takes all the credit for Kenya’s first ever qualification to the continental showpiece since 2004.

“There is no iota of doubt that the success story of our national team has come about as a result of the strong foundation FKF put in place under my leadership which was boosted by full support from our government,” Nyamweya said in a statement to the media and seen by SPORTSNEWS AFRICA.

He further alleged that Nick Mwendwa administration is using Harambee Stars coach Sebastien Migne to blackmail the government.

The French tactician recently went berserk when he blamed the Kenyan government of showing very little commitment in supporting the national team.

But Nyamweya feels that Migne is being used by Mwendwa’s office for personal gains.

“All the support the government has given the Federation, the players and the technical bench is being watered down by the emerging trend whereby FKF uses national team coach Migne to blackmail the government on matters to do with finances.

“In the recent past, FKF has received funding running into millions and it beats logic to see the federation use the coach to blackmail the government to give them money yet the money the Federation has been receiving is not even being accounted for.

Nyamweya further claimed that Migne is preparing the ground for excuses should he fail to deliver in Cairo during AFCON finals set to be staged between June and July.

Stars are currently away in Ghana for the final Group AFCON qualifiers.
