Michael Olunga has been absent for his club Girona FC in their last three games but the striker has been included in the 18 man team that is set to face Deportivo Alavez in a La Liga match on Thursday 19 April at the Estadio de Mendizorroza.

The Kenyan international had complained of a hip discomfort after their match against Real Madrid, his last appearance for the club when he was introduced as a substitute and has since missed games against Levante, Real Sociedad and Real Betis; a period where the club has failed to pick any win; even though he featured for Harambee Stars in their two friendly games against Comoros and CAR that came after the Madrid clash.

European Slots

According to the team’s head coach Pablo Machin, the La Liga debutants will in the game be angling for a win to boost their quest for a European slot.

“Our incentive in the match is to fight to get into European places but if that can’t be achieved then we must find the motivation to continue competing,” Machin said.

Girona are currently placed ninth with 44 points with Alavez being at position 15 with 38 points.

Olunga has scored three goals (all coming against Las Palmas) in ten appearances for his team since arriving from China. Of the ten, he has only started two games (against Barcelona and Sevilla) and introduced as a sub in the rest. He is yet to be booked.
