Over 300 golfers are expected to grace the 2019 Captain Prize at the par 72 Ruiru Sports Club Golf Course this Saturday.

The players are drawn from clubs across the country ahead of one of the biggest golfing event in Kiambu County this weekend.

The event is geared at honouring Peter Mwaura, the golf captain to mark the end of one year at the helm of the fast-growing club.

On top of the tens of prizes set aside for the day, golfers will also be fighting out for a fully-paid trip for two to Mauritius for a hole in one at the famous Hole 3, special prizes for media personalities, Juniors, Pros, Detour members, the Clergy, guests from neighbouring and reciprocating clubs, former golf captains and sponsors during the 12 hours’ golf action.

Last weekend, the Club launched a course irrigation project which is expected to be finalised within eight months, drastically transforming the 18-hole course in readiness for hosting major local and international tournaments.

Home golfers to watch out include recent winners Ezekiel Mucina, Henry Mwaura, Samuel Njinu, Teresia Wainaina and Judy Nyambura. A number of local pros are expected to participate at the event as well as top-ranked amateurs and some of the country’s top juniors.

Some of the media personalities expected to tee off on Saturday morning includes; Nation Media Group’s Henry Owour and Mac Otani, Star’s Samson Ateka and the seasoned Mediamax’s star Tony Kwalanda and Tony Timase, Emoo FM’s Kiplagat Kwambai among others.

The tournament will be played in a stable ford format with the first flight set for 6:45 am while the last tee off will be 1:30 PM.
