Ghanaian President Nana Akufo Addo will have to honour his Sh20 million-pledge to the national team after the Black Stars beat Kenya’s Harambee Stars in the final Group F Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.

Ghana won the dead rubber final group qualifying match thanks to an 83rd-minute strike by debutant Caleb Ekuban.

That goal means that Ghanaian President owes each of the 24 member Black Stars squad one million after he made a personal pledge to captain Asamoah Gyan and his deputy Andre Ayew ahead of the formality match as a motivation to the four-time African champions.

But Ghana had to dig deep into their energy reserve to avenge their 1-0 defeat to Harambee Stars in the opening clash at the Kasarani Stadium with a late goal that also left fans questioning the competence of first choice goalkeeper Patrick Matasi ahead of the AFCON finals after he made what many considered juvenile mistakes.

Both Kenya and Ghana have secured their places into the continental showpiece set to be held between June and July in Cairo, Egypt.
