Kenya’s poor run in the 2018/19 HSBC World Series extended to Sydney after Shujaa lost all the group matches with France being the latest side to have picked points from a disjointed Kenya 7s.

After a disastrous performance, the inexperienced Kenya 7s dropped to the Challenge Quarter-final where they will clash with Wales.

Paul Murunga’s side have struggled this season making the country’s dream of booking an early slot into the 2020 Summer Olympic difficult  as a result of poor performance.

France repaid the debt with a 40-17 victory against Kenya in the final Group B match to add to losses against USA and Canada who beat Murunga boys 41-0 and 24-14 respectively.

The losses saw Kenya with 105 points conceded and scoring just 31 on day one.

The loss to France was even more painful considering that Kenya had beaten them in the last group game just last week in Hamilton sevens, but the sluggish Kenyans forgot the formula they used against the French.

Stephen Parez gave France the opening try, but Shujaa responded through Brian Wahinya.

The inexperienced Kenyans however surrendered the advantage after Vincent Onyala gave Kenya the lead.

Parez, who grabbed a hat trick of tries, was the chief tormentor; when he crossed the chalk, then perfectly converted to take a two-point lead.

Paulin Riva and Nisie Huyard scored France’s other tries and once again, Parez was involved in the last try as the victors marched to the Cup Quarters for the first time since 2017.

Murunga will have to wait until Sunday at 3am to face Wales in the Challenge Trophy, the fourth time they are competing in the less prestigious match.
