Sports Journalist Association of Kenya (SJAK) will hold three clinics in three counties this year to help develop football skills at the grassroots level.

SJAK, an umbrella body that brings together Kenyan sports journalists, will spend Sh500,000 of the Sh10 million sponsorship deal with South Korean electronics manufacturer LG Electronics to carry out the programme in the yet to be identified counties.

LG renewed its partnership with SJAK, who run the monthly Kenyan Premier League Footballer of the Month award, for the sixth year running.

“LG has set aside Sh500, 000 to support three corporate social responsibility activities undertaken by SJAK in three different counties to improve youth football skills,” SJAK said in a statement.

Over 30 players have been recognized for their impressive form in different months since the inception of the awards.

Among the winners are  former Gor Mahia striker Meddie Kagere who plays for Simba SC, Gor Mahia’s Midfielder Kenneth Muguna, former Nzoia Sugar’s Elvis Rupia who joined Zambian side Power Dynamos in 2018, Kakamega Homeboyz forward Peter Thiongo who recently got a call up to the U-23 Harambee Stars side and Sofapaka striker Stephen Waruru.

The Sports Journalists Association of Kenya is an affiliate of the International Sports Press Association, AIPS, headquartered in Lausanne, Switzerland, which seeks to enhance the cooperation between sports media in defending sport and the professional interest of their members.
