Tottenham earned a 2-0 win over hard-fighting Crystal Palace on an historic night in front of 59,215 fans to go third on the league table Wednesday night.

Spurs took the lead in the 55th minute through Heung Min Son who made history after scoring in the first league goal in their new stadium.

Own goal or not, Son wriggled like an eel inside the Crystal Palace penalty area after 55 minutes to create the opening.

It turned out to be a scruffy goal, deflecting off the boot of Palace captain Luka Milivojevic when Son took aim.

Playmaker Christian Eriksen scored with 10 minutes from time to send the fans into wild celebrations.

The 59,215 fans who begged, borrowed or stole to get a ticket to the grand opening, went home happy.

They came to marvel at this stadium, to coo at the giant Cockerel perched proudly on top of the south stand and to celebrate their return to Haringey.

The win, a result that takes these Spurs boys into third, distances themselves from all those rotten results of late.

Defeats at Burnley, Chelsea, Southampton and Liverpool are behind them.

They can look ahead, to potential classics against Manchester City in the Champions League quarter-final and the sprint finish to the end of the season.
