Former Kenyan Premier League champions Sofapaka and Ulinzi Stars have been eliminated from the SportPesa Shield Cup after losing to Bungoma Super Stars and SS Assad respectively.

Sofapaka lost to little known Bungoma Super Stars while Ulinzi Stars were repelled by SS Assad in penalty shootouts.

This means that the former champions must win the league if they are to take part in the Caf Champions League or even the lower tier Caf Confederation Cup next season. Winner of the shield will gain an automatic ticket to the Confederation Cup.

Meanwhile, there was drama at the Bukungu Stadium when a fan invaded the pitch in his birth suit in another Shield match between defending champions Kariobangi Sharks and Education FC.

But Sharks were not fooled by the free entertainment when they attacked Education FC five times for a strong title defence.

The 2018 KPL Most Valuable Player and last season’s league top scorer Erick Kapaito scored his second goal in two matches for William Muluya.

Kapaito scored the second goal in between Henry Juma brace 38 and 68th minutes with Sydney Lokale and Nicholas Omondi completing the job late in the second half.

Elsewhere, AFC Leopards beat Kitale Transfoc 4-0 while Bandari overcame a resilient Kayo FC from Marsabit to sail into the next round.
