Sports Kenya made a U-turn after they bowed to pressure from Kenyans following an earlier decision barring Gor Mahia from using the Kasarani Stadium this coming Sunday.

Early in the day, the Stadia Management body had stated that Kasarani was unavailable after it was booked to host an Expo set to run from April 1-7

“We wish to inform you that the facility is not available due to earlier scheduled event,” Sports Kenya said in a statement.

This pronouncement meant that Gor Mahia was left with no option but to look for an alternative venue to host the first leg of the CAF Confederation Cup match against Moroccan side Bernkane on Sunday.

Sports Kenya, meanwhile have since rescinded the unpopular directive when they managed to convince the other client (KAM) to end their event at least a day before the due date.

“Following the appeal that we have received today, Sports Kenya has requested KAM to end the Expo on April 6 to allow the match to be played on April 7,” read a statement from Sports Kenya.

Sports Stadia Management board, however blamed Gor Mahia for the mix-up saying that the home team did not make an effort to secure the venue right in time.

“We wish to appeal to Gor Mahia and all our regular clients to either provide us with the calendar of events or at least make early bookings to avoid such inconveniences.’
