Zesco United’s new signing Kelvin Kampamba has bemoaned team Yaziko’s failure to qualify for continental football.
The Zambian international signed a two-year pre-contract agreement with the eight times Zambian League champions, though he will remain at Nkana for the next four months before linking up with his new club in January 2021.
“Kampamba has signed a pre-contract agreement with Zesco United after agreeing personal terms with the club… effective 1st January 2021 after seeing off the remaining four months of his contract with Nkana Football Club,” Zesco United Technical Chairman Peter Mutale was quoted by the club website.
Kampamba is expected to bring creativity and depth in the midfield and Mutale believes that this is the first step of their journey back to the continual football.
“Our aim is to sign quality players because its only quality that will bring success to the club. We have brought in these players to send a big statement of intent to return in CAF and to reclaim the league title,” Mutale added.
Zesco failed to qualify for the CAF inter-club competitions after finishing fourth in the Zambian Super League last season.
“It’s not an easy thing to move from Nkana to Zesco United but I know that I am joining a big football club. It is unfortunate that we are not going to represent Zambia in the CAF Competitions.
“I am here to help the team reclaim the title and qualify for CAF competitions. Our fans should expect more goals and assists from me. My mission here is to see this club win more titles. As such I will be working tirelessly to ensure that this is achieved.”
Kampamba 23, bosats of two Super League titles and one Absa Cup with Nkana, a winning mentality that he hopes to carry to the former champions. He also has two Charity Shield medals in his cabinet having lifted it in 2014 and 2016 with Nkana and Power Dynamos respectively.
On the pitch, he’s considered one of the most exciting midfielders to grace the Zambian game in recent years; a journey that started at Miseshi Blue Stars Soccer Academy in Kitwe, then to Kitwe United before where he spent six months before joining Lime Hotspurs where he helped them win promotion to the Super League.
Kampamba finally burst onto the domestic scene in 2013 after signing for Nkana. He switched to Power Dynamos 2015 and would spend three years before returning to the Wusakile Boys in 2018.
