Boxscore: NAIROBI, Kenya (August 17, 2021) – Africa middleweight champion Rayton Okwiri of Kenya has extended his unbeaten record to seven, after defeating Colombia’s Fidel Munoz by knock out over the weekend in an eight round middleweight non-title fight.
‘Boom Boom’ as he is popularly known took control of the bout in the first round by taking the fight to his opponent catching him with his heavy trademark blows.
The 26-year-old Kenyan picked up from where he left off in the second round, charging against Munoz who looked more and more defensive as Okwiri pummeled him and sending him to the canvas with a left blow.
Munoz was not going to finish the second round as Okwiri further inflicted more damage on him as he looked helpless- dropping his guard only to be saved by the referee who stopped the match to earn Okwiri a much deserving victory.
This will serve as part of Okwiri’s preparation for his attempt at the WBO international middleweight bout which has been on the horizon.
Okwiri who’s goal is to win a world title before hanging his gloves has been in top form since turning professional back in 2017.
His success in the ring has captured the imagination of Kenyans who have even compared him to the great Kenyan Boxer Robert Wangila who won Africa’s first Olympic Gold medal in boxing.
Okwiri is scheduled for more fights before the year ends in Nairobi and a second bout in Dar es Salaam.
He is seen as the face for the revival of Kenyan Boxing which has been in the shadows since its heyday back in the 1970’s and 80’s
