Ghanaian striker Stephen Owusu has passed on at the age of 37 after battling illness for a long time.
The striker who made his name in the Kenyan Premier League made a return to West Africa a couple of months ago in search of medication but unfortunately passed on Saturday.
It is a sad end for the veteran striker who is remembered for delivering Kenyan Premier League title and the Football Shield Cup for Tusker FC in 2016.
However, he was released a year later alongside 13 other players among them the then captain James Situma and veteran midfielder Humphrey Mieno.
The forward then joined National Super League side Nairobi Stima where he spent two seasons before his condition led to his exit.
“I am left with no words,” Tusker FC communications officer Dianah Yonah posted on her Facebook account. “[Rest in peace] Owusu, dabo dabo champion. Until we meet again.”
“My sincere and heartfelt condolences to the family of Stephen Owusu,” former Sofapaka striker Ronald Okoth tweeted.
“Definitely one of the best opponents I have ever played against . Unplayable on his good day and a sharp thorn in the flesh of our defense line.
“May his soul rest in peace.”
“Owusu has also played for Asante Kotoko, Heart of Lions and Esperance Tunis.”
