Tusker FC beat Sofapaka 3-1 in a Kenyan Premier League match played at Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos on Saturday.
The brewers had not started the KPL season well but last weekend’s 2-1 win against Zoo Kericho seemed to have motivated the 11-time league champions.
However, Batoto ba Mungu started the game on a higher note but failed to convert their chances into goals.
The first real chance fell to Tusker in the 18th minute when former Gor Mahia player George Odhiambo failed to connect a cross by Luke Namanda in the danger zone.
In the 32nd minute, George Maelo conceded a penalty when he brought down Odhiambo in the box.
Timothy Otieno’s effort was, however, parried away by Sofapaka custodian Isima Watenga.
Immediately after the break, the brewers opened the score chart courtesy of Michael Madoya.
The former Zoo Kericho man pounced on a rebound after Rodgers Aloro’s free-kick came off the crossbar.
Sofapaka could have leveled almost immediately but Brian Nyakan could not convert a low cross by Timonah Wanyonyi.
They were made to pay dearly in the 53rd minute when Hillary Wandera banged home from three yards after the defenders had failed to clear a throw-ball.
The hosts sealed the win in the 71st minute when David Majak’s effort bounced off before Namanda made no mistake from 12-yards.
Batoto ba Mungu scored their consolation in stoppage time courtesy of Elly Asieche’s penalty after Wandera handled the ball in the box.
