The thrill of owning a 4×4 vehicle is not in its size or sleekness but putting it to the test in some of the remotest places with forbidding terrain.
From October 19 – 21, 2018, Kenya’s 4×4 enthusiasts will attempt to conquer some of the most treacherous off-road tracks in the annual 039 Elgon 4×4 Challenge.
The event was started in 2015 by 4×4 enthusiasts from Western Kenya who wanted to mobilize resources for conservation of Mt Elgon Forest which is in danger of being destroyed completely.
Mt Elgon’s diverse terrain and dramatic ascents combined with with its unique caves, valleys and streams flora and fauna should make for a memorable event.
Now in its third year, the Elgon 4×4 Challenge is emerging as the next big motorsports event in Kenya with organizers also using it to expose Mt Elgon as a tourist destination.
There is also a cultural element of the challenge. Found deep in the forest are the Ogiek people and during the event, their traditional performances, local brews and food will keep everyone entertained and satisfied.
