One of these three players — Francis Kahata, Enosh Ochieng and  Joash Onyango — will walk away with a cool Sh1 million on Monday after the conclusion of the second edition of the LG/Sports Journalists Association of Kenya (SJAK) football awards in Nairobi.

SJAK, the national sports journalists body who are the organizers of the annual awards has announced that the winner of the Most Valuable Player (MVP) will pocket the top  a one million cheque plus a 55-inch TV from the sponsors, LG Electronics.

Ulinzi Stars striker and the 2018/19 Kenyan Premier League season reigning Golden Boot winner Enosh Ochieng will battle for the top gong with former K’Ogalo midfielder Kahata who has since moved to Tanzanian champions Simba SC and Gor Mahia defender Joash Onyango.

Winners of the other categories like  the Golden Glove, the Midfielder of the Year, Golden Boot, Coach of the Year, Defender of the Year and the Young Player of the Year will each pocket a quarter a million.

First and second runners ups will go home with Sh150,000 and Sh100,000 cash prizes respectively.

The SJAK President Award winner will also take home the same amount as the second runners up.

Faruk Shikhalo’s who scoped the Golden Glove in a parallel award organized by the Kenyan Premier League has stiff competition from Justin Ndikumana, the former Sofapaka custodian who replaced him at the Dockers, alongside Samuel Odhiambo.

Shikhalo has also moved to Tanzania with Yanga.

Francis Kahata who had an impressive season with the Kenyan league champions will be chasing a double after he made the cut for the midfielder of the year alongside the promising Bandari star Abdalla Hassan and Cliff Nyakeya, formerly with Mathare United.

Coach Hassan Oktay who guided Gor Mahia to an unprecedented 18th league title also made the cut and he will battle for the award with a total kitty of Sh4 million alongside John Baraza (Sofapaka) and Bernard Mwalala of Bandari.

The event will be streamed live from the National Museums of Kenya on the on MadGoat TV Facebook page
