Former Harambee Stars coach Stanley Okumbi has returned to football management.

Okumbi, who was replaced by Sebastien Migne as Stars manager, is now the technical director at the National Super League side Wazito FC.

Okumbi was tipped to replace Mohammed Muchulla as the head coach, but he failed to agree on terms with the club owner Ricardo Badoer and instead settled for the less prestigious, but powerful post.

Meanwhile Fred Ambani has been elevated to the position of head of the technical bench.

Ambani who joined the team at the start of the season will be assisted by Hamisi Muhammed.

“It is his first time being head coach, but we are confident that he has what it takes to lead the team to the Kenyan Premier League (KPL),” Wazito sporting director Solomon Alubala said of Ambani.

Okumbi, who is currently Kenya’s Harambee Stars national U-20 tactician, is understood to have tabled a Sh600,000 monthly salary demand and the club was a bit reluctant to accept but the club created the post of the technical director to accommodate the experienced tactician.

“We are interested in Okumbi defining the role of the technical director at the club since we have not had it before. It will not be business as usual, like how other teams would normally exemplify this role. But, he is free to organise it in a manner fitting for the club to be prosperous,” Alubala asserted.

Other than coaching Harambee Stars, Okumbi has also previously coached Mathare United and Kariobangi Sharks.

Wazito is currently second with 44 points having played 20 games, beaten by goal difference by Ushuru.
